My Fitness Journey

My journey really began when I joined my school swim team in Jr. high. While it provided a way to be active, a lack of balanced training led to painful knee injuries by the time I graduated high school. I tried to maintain a basic level of fitness throughout college (mainly so I could continue to enjoy outdoor activities), but it wasn't until I began running that my legs finally developed the balanced muscle strength to minimize the pain I experienced from swimming injuries. After having two kids I was motivated to step up my running - not only to lose weight but to have the energy to be the best mom I could. I am definitely more fit now than I was in my 20's and can enjoy many different types of activities including marathons, triathlons, skiing, and helping coach my kids' cross country team. My own struggles to cope with injury and still find ways to enjoy an active lifestyle influenced my decision to pursue a Master's degree in Exercise Science. My focus on Corrective Exercise stems from my desire to help others avoid or overcome injuries caused by unbalanced or misguided training.
